Douglas Eugene "Jack" Walker
Douglas Eugene "Jack" Walker of Manila, 87, passed away Sept. 21, 2011, in Columbus, Miss. The son of the late James Arthur and Dora Mae Kent Walker, Jack was born May 28, 1924, in Meridian, Miss. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manila. He served his country during World War II when he flew over 30 missions as a gunner in the United States Army Air Force while stationed in Seething, Englan, with the 448th Bomb Group. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a past master and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Manila. He was also a long-time member of the Cattleman's Association.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, James Walker, Elizabeth Rice, Robert Walker, Martin Walker, Harold Walker, David Walker, Jean Davis and Betty Rouse.
Jack is survived by his wife, Betty Walker of Manila, and daughters Junie Matthews (Woody) and Sandy Brown (Charlie), and grandchildren, Deena McIntyre, Drew Matthews (Ashley), and Libby Matthews, all of Columbus, Miss. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Harmon (John) of Fort Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1367, Manila, Ark. 72442 or Community United Methodist Church, 3908 State Highway 18, Manila.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Manila. Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
