Doris Dale Gunn
Mrs. Doris Dale Gunn, 83, of Mountain View, Calif., former longtime Manila resident and widow of Mr. L.B. Gunn, passed from this life Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at her home. Born in Manila, Doris was the daughter of the late Doyle and Olive Thompson White and had lived most of her life in Manila. As a child she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined First Baptist Church in Manila where her parents and grandparents were active members. She graduated from Manila High School and received a A.A. degree from Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge then taught school for two years in the Brown Spur Community near Manila. Doris and L.B. were married in 1947 and together they served the Lord at First Baptist Church for 57 of their 59 years of marriage. Doris taught Sunday School and served as church librarian, was active in the Women's Missonary Union and enjoyed teaching mission studies.
In 2006 Doris and L.B. moved to Mountain View to live with their daughter and son-in-law. Following L.B.'s death Doris began to attend Abundant Life Christian Fellowship. She joined the church growth group where she made many good friends in her final years.
In addition to her husband and parents Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma White and Nancy Hedspeth.
She leaves two sons, Gary Gunn and his wife, Christy, of Gallatin, Tenn., and Sherrill Gunn and his wife, Sharon, of Paducah, Ky.;
One daughter, Dale Marie Weatherford and her husband, David, of Mountain View, Calif.;
Three sisters, Aleta Nowlin of Blytheville, Faith Jobe and her husband, Waylen, of Springfield, Mo.., and Judy Berry and her husband, Ty, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and brother-in-law Bill Hedspeth of Medina, TN
Seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Manila with the Rev. Ferrel Duffel, the Rev. William Piercy, the Rev. Doyne Robertson, and Ty Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. today at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila.
