Nucor Steel Arkansas is considering a $40 million expansion to its Hickman facility, Blytheville Mayor James Sanders told the City Council's Finance and Purchasing Committee Friday.
Tuesday night, the Council is expected to consider a resolution that paves the way for the potential expansion.
Sanders did not know how many jobs the expansion could create.
"Nucor has evidenced its interest in making significant expansions and improvements to the steel mill, to include facilities and equipment for manufacturing ultra-low carbon steel and other steel products, if permanent financing can be provided through the issuance of bonds under the authority of Act 9," the proposed resolution reads. "The city desires to assist Nucor in order to secure and develop industry near the city and to aid in the financing of the projects under the provisions of Act 9."
More details will be released as they become available.
