Tuesday night, the Blytheville Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit request for a Family Life Center at New Saint Paul MB Church, 515 E. Sawyer.
Church member Jesse King said the 5,000-6,000 square foot building will include three classrooms and a kitchen.
Pastor Phillips noted it could function as a shelter during a disaster like the 2009 ice storm and serve the community.
King added if members are without heat or air, they could come to the facility.
Code Enforcement's Rick Ash explained the church, though grandfathered in during an annexation, needed a conditional use permit because it was expanding.
Ash said anytime a church locates in any zone it must have a conditional use permit.
There was no opposition to the Family Life Center during a public hearing that preceded the Planning Commission meeting.
