With the start of school right around the corner preparation for the new year has begun. This year faculty members from local high schools, as well as faculty from Arkansas Northeastern College, will be receiving some additional preparation.

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, ANC will be hosting a Student Success Symposium that will be attended by teachers from Armorel, Blytheville, Manilla, Osceola and Rivercrest, as well as faculty members from ANC.

The prompting behind the conference was the idea of building a better partnership between secondary and post-secondary educators in the area, according to Sherri Bennett, who is coordinating the symposium, which is a first for the area. Local educators will be given the tools to provide a more seamless transition for students from high school to college.

The symposium is expected to yield long-term results that would give students a better chance to succeed at a collegiate level, while also exposing high school teachers to new ways of encouraging their students to pursue higher education.

"This is a unique opportunity for Mississippi County schools," said Bennett. The symposium will bring in guest speakers from across the country to train and inspire educators to work together to see a greater success rate in the number of students who attend college.
