Gosnell and defending state champion Rivercrest are picked to win their respective conferences, while Blytheville is expected to finish fourth in the 5A-East, according to the Coaches' polls printed in Hooten's Arkansas Football magazine.

The 3-4A coaches predict Osceola will bounce back from a down year by its standards and finish second behind the defending league champion Pirates.

Meanwhile, Manila is picked seventh in the 3-3A, while the Colts are predicted to repeat as league champions.

Blytheville returning all-state receiver Greg McKillion was honored by the magazine as a member of the 5A Super Team. Rivercrest defensive back Robert Cooney made the 3A Super Team.

McKillion and the Chicks are looking to return to the playoffs this year, after just missing the postseason last fall, Coach Maurice Moody's first season at BHS.

They are picked to make the fourth and final East playoff spot.

Batesville is picked to win the league, followed by Beebe, Wynne, Blytheville, Greene County Tech, Forrest City, Nettleton and Paragould.

Hooten's lists Blytheville's strength as its skill positions and its weakness as lack of depth on the line.

Ranked 17th in the 4A preseason poll, the Pirates are projected to win the 3-4A, followed by Osceola, Highland, Valley View, Pocahontas, Trumann and Westside.

Hooten's lists Gosnell's strength as quarterback -- all-state QB Gavin Sullivan returns behind center after throwing for nearly 1,700 yards and rushing for 1,087 a year ago.

The Pirates biggest weakness is a lack of linemen, according to the magazine.

The Seminoles should be strong at running back with guys like Korliss Marshall, but may struggle with depth, the magazine says.

Meanwhile, Rivercrest, ranked fifth in the 3A poll, may have lost that tremendous senior class off the 15-0 2010 team, but the Colts still have plenty of team speed and talent.

A lack of size on the lines and experience at the skill positions are the Colts' weaknesses, according to Hooten's.

They are still predicted to win the league crown, followed by Bald Knob, Hoxie, Earle, Harrisburg, Piggott, Manila and Corning.

Manila has increased participation, but lacks speed and depth, according to Hooten's.
