A Lepanto woman was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and hydrocodone.

Deputy Chris Ditto of the Mississippi County Sheriff's office stopped to assist the driver of a pickup truck that had pulled over on County Road 103 near Dyess Sunday.

Ditto asked the driver, Peggy Humphreys Stokes, 54, if she was OK, and the driver said she was "just checking to make sure nothing flew from the vehicle." Ditto noticed that the woman was extremely nervous, visibly shaken and stuttering.

After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, Ditto found a small pill box in Stokes' purse that containing three large pills, and the corner of a plastic baggie containing a small white rock. Ditto asked Stokes what it was and she replied that it was "meth."

Stokes was taken to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department where she declined to answer questions. She was taken before District Judge Mike Gibson, who set a bond of $15,000 on the drug charges.
