Myrtle Necie Cornish Smith

Monette -- Mrs. Myrtle Necie Cornish Smith, 90, passed away Saturday, April 30,2011 at the Manila Nursing Center.

She was a life-long resident of Monette, born on October 2, 1920, to the late Harve and Necie Townsend Cornish. She was retired from the American Greetings Company after 25 years of service as a data entry clerk and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church and the Monette Eastern Star. She also loved to cook.

Survivors include six children: JoAnn (Johnny) Boyd of Manila, Mittie (Larry) Jackson of Marion; Sondra (Jim) Branscum of Central City, KY; Tom (Carol) Smith of Wilson; Terry Smith of Manila, and Donna Driver of Harrisburg; 20 Grandchildren; 39 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Wilson Smith, two sons, Jinks Ray and Jesse Leon Smith, three brothers, Arthur, Rufus and Claude Cornish and one sister, Hazel Smith.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Monette Cemetery with Jim Branscum officiating under the direction of the Gregg Funeral Home of Monette. Honored to serve as pallbearers were her grandsons.

The family received friends from noon until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gregg Funereal Home in Monette.
