Manila School Board members were treated to a dinner following the April meeting held Thursday.
Nabholz Construction crew members treated the board members to a rib dinner in the school cafeteria. Nabholz Construction Services recently constructed the new elementary building and the cafeteria expansion.
During the meeting, members of the school board reviewed the financial reports before going into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
The board voted to hire Donna Mills, Pat Lloyd, Ashley King and Cindy Vassar as part-time cafeteria workers.
The board accepted the resignation of Sherry Davis as of June 16.
They also voted to renew the classified contracts for the 2011-12 school year.
The board voted to accept Option 3 calendar for the 2011-12 school year. The calendar has total student days of 178 and teacher days of 190 with the first day of school for students Aug. 15.
Superintendent Pam Castor recommended the board approve the model policy proposal with the exception of the personnel and ethic policy.
"That will give us time to review the policy," Castor said.
The board approved it unanimously. Board members present were Tracey Reinhart, president; Danny Robbins, vice president; Brandon Veach, secretary; Steve Methany, Johnny McCain, Tony Crowell and Jeremy Jackson.
The board then approved technology purchases using the stabilization stimulus funds and technology budget.
"These are restricted funds and have to be used for technology," Castor said.
The board voted to purchase smart boards and accessories in the amount of $21,793.50, Veneer Science equipment for $25,140.60, and Apple I Pad learning labs for $16,995.
She informed the board the Veneer software will be used in the chemistry and biology departments.
"This will help with more advanced calculations and upgrade our science program," Castor said. "This is the same type used at Arkansas State University."
The Manila School Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building.
