Manila swept a pair of 3A-3 conference baseball matchups last week, defeating Hoxie 6-1 Monday afternoon on the road before coming home Tuesday to thrash Corning 13-2.
Taylor Morgan fanned 11 Hoxie batters in going the distance in Manila's victory over the Mustangs. Morgan gave up only four hits while issuing just four walks. Morgan also went 2-4 at the plate, including an RBI double. The senior scored a pair of runs and had two stolen bases on the day. Blake Miller also added a pair of hits in three at bats with a pair of RBIs.
Blake Miller's grand slam home run highlighted Manila's 13-2 win over Corning. Miller finished the day 2-3 with five RBIs. The Lions, who improved to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in league play, also got a 2-4 performance at the plate from Taylor Morgan. Morgan had a double, an RBI and scored three times. Jordan Goff also went 2-3 at the plate, including a home run. Goff finished the day with two RBIs and scored two runs.
Zach Reinhart (3-3) picked up the win for the Lions. Reinhart struck out eight, walked one and scattered four hits in five innings of work.
Riverside
Riverside began its week with a doubleheader split against East Poinsett County at Lepanto. The Rebels won the opener 8-3 before dropping the nightcap 16-6.
M.J. Brewer picked up the win for Riverside in the opener, striking out 15 Warriors. Brewer scattered four hits and issued four walks. Brewer evened his record on the season at 2-2. The big right hander did not give up an earned run.
Logan Meurer was the hero at the plate, going 4-5. Meurer was a home run short of hitting for the cycle. Meurer finished with a single, two doubles and a triple, and had two RBIs on the day. Morgan Fletcher added a pair of hits and drove in two runs while Cody Stallings also contributed a pair of base hits.
The Warriors took the second game, despite Meurer's 2-4 performance at the plate. Meurer finished with an RBI while Cody Stallings added a pair of hits and an RBI.
Riverside trounced Maynard 21-4 Tuesday afternoon at Maynard. Cody Stallings picked up the win, allowing one earned run on four hits. Stallings improved to 1-1 on the season. Stallings pitched five innings of four run baseball, striking out seven while walking three.
Logan Meurer and Morgan Fletcher both blasted solo homers and finished with two hits apiece, while J.D. Price chipped in with a pair of hits.
Riverside traveled to Black Rock Thursday afternoon and came away with a 13-6 victory over the Zebras. The Rebels scored five times in the top of the fifth inning to put the game away, capped off by Cody Stallings' two-run single.
Morgan Fletcher added two hits and scored three runs while Logan Meurer had two hits and an RBI. Matthew Mann had a hit and drove in a pair of runs. Meurer picked up the win in relief for Riverside.
Riverside ended the week being no-hit by Marmaduke's Morgan Hawley. Hawley also drove in five runs to lead Marmaduke to a 15-0 four inning victory. Hawley, 7-2 on the season, went a perfect 3-3 at the plate as the Greyhounds improved to 14-7 overall and 11-4 in 2A-3 conference play. The right hander pitched four innings of no-hit ball, striking out seven while issuing three walks.
Riverside dropped to 7-13 overall and 5-9 in league play.
Buffalo Island Central
Morgan Hawley also dealt Buffalo Island Central a defeat with a walk-off RBI single Monday afternoon at Marmaduke, giving the Greyhounds a thrilling 2-1 victory. Hawley was the winning pitcher, going the distance, striking out seven while scattering five hits.
Marmaduke opened the scoring in the first inning when Hawley, who had two hits, scored on an error.
Isaac Ibanez tied the game for BIC with an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning. Ibanez (6-2) took the loss on the mound, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings. The southpaw struck out seven Greyhounds while allowing five hits and one earned run.
BIC pounded Bay 12-7 Thursday afternoon at Monette. Wes Colbert went 3-3 at the plate and scored four times while Isaac Ibanez went 2-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Mustang offense. Jacob Sanders also had a pair of RBIs as BIC improved to 16-7 on the season.
BIC broke open a 6-6 game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
