The ISO inspector recently completed the city of Blytheville's audit, and local officials could know the results in four to five months, Blytheville Fire Chief Mike Carney said Friday.

The inspector began evaluating the Blytheville Fire Department last month for the city's critical ISO rating, which determines insurance costs.

"He wrapped up last week by doing flow tests on various plugs around the city," Carney said last week. "We should have the results within the next few months."

The city's last rating, a Class 3, was in 1992.

When asked if the ISO inspector indicated what the results might be, Carney said there is "no reason to speculate" though some of the inspectors comments were encouraging.

The chief said the department won't know for certain until the process is complete.

The ISO inspector looked at the three fire stations, water supply, communications and equipment.

One of the selling points of the police and fire tax was equipping the fire department to maintain the city's Class 3 rating.

"Three is a very good rating," Carney said recently. "The lower the number the better. An easy way to remember it, the lower the number, the lower the premiums. We are currently at three and that's something to be proud of."

Meanwhile, Carney said the Fire Department is currently revising its emergency response plans.

"This is in conjunction with the already adopted county wide plan (earthquake, tornado, natural disasters, etc.)," he said.

The Fire Department is also in the process of starting its annual business fire inspections. All city businesses are subject to the inspection, annually.
