Betty Jean Shelton
Betty Jean Shelton, 83, of Manila, widow of Gene Shelton, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in Batesville, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Lena King Holt and had been a Manila resident since 1936. She was a 1945 graduate of Manila High School and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Steve Shelton of Manila; a daughter, Cathy Smith of Manila; two sisters,
Geraldine Pulliam of Paragould and Mary Sue Farmer of Manila; five grandchildren, Chad Shelton, Chase Shelton, Maegan Shelton, Michael E. Smith and David Smith, and eight great-grandchildren; Amber Smith, Kailen Shelton, Kinley Shelton, Kacey Jo Shelton, Barakah Gillis, Kyler Smith, Kinsley Smith and Bryan Steakley.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Waymon Holt and Rev. Ferell Duffel officiating. Burial was in Manila Cemetery. The family received visitors Sunday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Chad Shelton, Chase Shelton, David Smith, Michael E. Smith, Bryan Steakley, Brent Farmer and Marty Pulliam.
