Betty Jean Shelton

Betty Jean Shelton, 83, of Manila, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in Batesville, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Lena King Holt and had been a Manila resident since 1936. She was a 1945 graduate of Manila High School and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.

Her husband, Gene Shelton, preceded her in death.

She leaves one son, Steve Shelton of Manila;

One daughter, Cathy Smith of Manila;

Two sisters, Geraldine Pulliam of Paragould and Mary Sue Farmer of Manila;

Five grandchildren, Chad Shelton, Chase Shelton, Maegan Shelton, Michael E. Smith and David Smith; and

Eight great-grandchildren, Amber Smith, Kailen Smith, Kinley Smith, Kacey Jo Shelton, Barakah Gillis, Kyler Smith, Kinsley Smith and Bryan Steakley.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. Waymon Holt and the Rev. Ferell Duffel officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chad Shelton, Chase Shelton, David Smith, Michael E.
