Miss Lights of the Delta, Ashley Walthall, recently visited the fifth-grade social studies classes of Hilary Bloodworth at Blytheville Intermediate School.
Walthall, who's platform is "Patriotic Pride: Supporting our Troops" talked to the students about the meaning of our Pledge of Allegiance, our freedoms, and our troops that were in the military abroad protecting those freedoms. During each class, she had students write letters of appreciation to our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
She also left a box asking students to bring supplies that these soldiers would like to have, such as beef jerky, coffee, powdered drink mixes, batteries and many other items. A complete list of things that can be sent to our troops is listed on www.give2thetroops.org.
These items will be collected for about a month and then mailed overseas. Anyone interested in donating items or cash (to help with postage) may leave it at Blytheville Intermediate School library.
