Two Leachville women were killed in a two vehicle accident early Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the intersection of Arkansas Highways 119 and 18.

Driver Carolin H. Oliver, 66 of 106 R2, Nelson Street, and Christeen Littlefield, 83, of 205 Church Street, were in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata traveling south on Highway 119. According to the preliminary state police report, the driver failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a 2004 east-bound Chevrolet pick-up driven by Ronald G. Holt of Caraway.

The two women were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Holt, 50, was transported to St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro where he was treated with non-critical injuries and later released.

The accident happened at approximately 4:40 a.m. and was investigated by Trooper Moye Hawkins of the Arkansas State Police.

Assisting at the accident scene were Leachville Police Officers and firemen and first responders, and Manila fire department and Manila Police Officers.

One injured in a three vehicle accident:

A three-car accident at the same intersection as an early morning fatal crash on Highway 18 and Highway 119 occurred just a few hours later on Wednesday morning. According to Leachville Chief of Police Keith Evans clean-up from the first accident was almost completed when the three vehicle accident happened.

Sherry Ellis of Monette was east bound in the turn lane of Highway 18 attempting to make a left hand turn onto State Highway 119. Ellis failed to yield to the vehicle driven by Oscar Gonzalez of Jonesboro, traveling west bound on Highway 18. Gonzalez's vehicle struck the passenger side of Ellis' vehicle and caused her to strike the vehicle stopped at the stop sign driven by Lee Spence of Leachville.

Ellis was transported to a Jonesboro hospital. The two other drivers were uninjured.

Cpl. Tony Crowell with the Arkansas State Police said the accident is still under investigation.
