GOSNELL -- The Gosnell school board, in its Monday night meeting, approved the expenditure of just over $6,000 from district funds to assist with the installation of document cameras, screens and projectors in all kindergarten and first-grade classrooms.

The district funds are being added to $34,905 received under Title VI State funding -- which will complete the total project cost of just over $41,000.

Also being spent is approximately $8,300, which is half of the amount needed for the district to purchase new baseball and softball scoreboards.

The other half of the money for this project is being provided by a local bank.

Brian Carter, principal of Gosnell High School, proposed that the board approved a revision of the secondary after-school detention program, and was successful.

The after-school detention will now be run by two teachers who are qualified to provide tutoring in math and English, and all students in detention will receive core subject tutoring during their detention time.

This program has replaced Saturday detentions, which the board and Carter agreed to be ineffective in controlling the problems of student tardiness and absenteeism.
