A Blytheville man was scheduled to be arraigned today in Blytheville District Court in connection with the Sept. 25 murder of Taurus Harris.
On Sunday, David Holmes, 23, was arrested at a residence in Memphis by U.S. Marshals and the Memphis Police Department Tactical Unit, according to Blytheville assistant police chief Marvin Crawford.
"Blytheville Police Department detectives had developed information that Holmes was in Jonesboro and Blytheville Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals," Crawford said. "U.S. Marshals and officers from the Jonesboro Police Department searched several locations looking for Holmes. U.S. Marshals received a tip that Holmes had left Jonesboro and went to Memphis where he was located and apprehended without incident."
On Monday, Holmes was transported back to Mississippi County by Blytheville officers.
"The Blytheville Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service, the Jonesboro Police Department, and the Memphis Police Department for their assistance in apprehending David Holmes," Crawford said.
The first-degree murder charge stems from an incident last month.
At approximately 1:25 a.m. Sept. 25, Blytheville police responded to the area of Sawyer and Sarah Streets in reference to someone being shot.
The responding officers were told that the person shot had been transported to the Great River Medical Center by POV.
"Officers were sent to hospital where they discovered that Taurus Harris had just arrived with an apparent gunshot to his chest," Crawford said. "Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and Mr. Harris died from his injuries. Detectives spoke to several witnesses who described Taurus Harris having an argument with David Holmes, and Holmes shot Harris during the verbal confrontation. Holmes then fled from the scene."
