Lula Belle Flagg
Mrs. Lula Belle Flagg, 96, of Manila, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born at Nodena, Ark., she was the daughter of the late R.M. and Vera Blanch Basset Huckaby and had been a Manila resident for most of her life. She was the widow of Leo Archie Flagg and was a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Blytheville. Mrs. Flagg was a devoted wife and a very loving mother and grandmother. She was a strong devoted Christian and a faithful pillar of strength to her family. Everyone that knew her would agree she was one of the kindest, yet strongest women they had ever known. In her 96 years on this earth she experienced much heartache with the passing of so many family members.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Flagg; two daughters, Ova Dee Flagg and Betty Storey; a granddaughter, Katrinka Storey; and two great-great-granddaughters, Ella and Kyra Carpenter. When asked how she got through such hard times, she would simply say, "The Lord."
She is survived by six grandchildren, Bobby Storey and his wife Denise of Manila, Susie Baker and husband Barry of Manila, Christy Dillon and husband Tommy of Manila, Doug Storey and wife Mary of Hope, David Flagg and wife Sumi of Heber Springs, and Angelique Flagg Brown of Vilonia; 17 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Greg Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Manila Cemetery. The family received visitors Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Barry Baker, Tommy Dillon, Brian Baker, Brad Dillon, Tyler Brown, and Larry Joe Carpenter.
