This week area second- through sixth-graders, who have been recommended by their teachers and principals, will attend Arkansas Northeastern College's 11th Annual Summer Enrichment Camp.
The annual camp is geared toward highly motivated students who are performing above grade level, are eager to learn and who are able to work independently. Once the students are recommended for the camp it is up to them and their parents whether or not they attend. The one-week session began Monday and meets from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. through Thursday. This year's them is "Sights of the City: Bridges, Buildings and Skyscrapers."
The students of this year's Summer Enrichment Camp will work with teachers from Memphis, who are with the CLUE (Creative Learning in a Unique Environment) program. The teachers will be on hand all week to teach the students how to build bridges, skyscrapers and buildings using everyday supplies.
On Thursday the students will put their knowledge to the test by using things like marshmallows and spaghetti noodles to build bridges, buildings and skyscrapers in ANC's Governors Ballroom. For Thursday's event each student will wear their themed Summer Enrichment t-shirt.
