During a brief meeting Tuesday night, the Blytheville Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Blytheville City Council rezone 3121 South Division, from R-3 to B-3.
The move would allow property owner Jahid Rahman to build a motel on the site.
Rahman is planning a 3-story building with 20-24 units. He also plans to purchase land near the property, already B-3, for the project.
Grizzly Sayer, who owns property close to Rahman's, was the only resident to speak against the rezoning during a public hearing that preceded the Planning Commission meeting. Sayer said he wasn't opposed to a motel, but didn't want a liquor store on the property.
Most of the surrounding area is zoned B-3.
Because Rahman's property is in the Overlay District, Commissioner Ben Hubbard said he would have to bring any project plans to the Planning Commission for approval.
