Lake City Mayor Billy Anderson informed the city council members of his plans not to seek re-election at the regular May 17 meeting.
"I have enjoyed my time in office and appreciate working with the council members," he said. "I will be available to help the incoming mayor in any way I can."
Five council members were present at the regular council meeting, Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffrey Wisham and Jon Milligan. Also present was City Clerk Linda Simpson.
Mayor Anderson discussed the proposed one cent sales tax. City Clerk Simpson reviewed the information on the sales tax from the last meeting and reported on recent telephone conversations with Ryan Bowman, attorney with Friday Law Firm. It was decided by the Mayor and City Council to have two sales tax forums in June. The dates and time are 6:30 p.m. June 7 and June 14. The meetings will be held at city hall.
There will also be a time included in the next city council meeting, 6:30 p.m. June 21, for any questions citizens want to address concerning the proposed sales tax.
Mayor Anderson expressed his sympathy to the Edison family on the recent loss of Norman Edison, Jr., Lake City fire chief. Mayor Anderson appointed Herb Davis Jr. as fire chief. Chris Snyder will assume the position of assistant fire chief with Devin Griffin taking on the responsibility of fire marshal.
