Mississippi County voters will return to the polls once again before the November General Election to consider the extension of a half-cent sales tax for economic development.
The Quorum Court approved an ordinance and resolution Tuesday night declaring that an election will take place on Aug. 10 to allow voters to decide if the tax will be extended.
Justice Bill Nelson reminded his colleagues of the many jobs the tax has brought to the county "that all the politicians want to take credit for," Nelson joked.
Among recent successes for the tax are the location and expansion of Aviation Repair Technologies and the announcement last week of German-based Beckmann Volmer, which promises to bring up to 500 jobs and $10 million to the county.
If approved, the sales tax will be extended through June 30, 2023.
