Music, barbecue await visitors to Main Street

This year's Main Street MayFest, formerly Springtime on the Mall, gets under way this afternoon with Music on Main at the Southern Bancorp parking lot on Main Street.

Music on Main kicks off at 4:30 p.m. today with Ray Alan Gill barbecuing until 8 p.m. and the David Byrnes Band featuring CJ. Wilder performing from 7-10 p.m. on the stage at the Southern Bancorp parking lot.

The full schedule of MayFest events begins Saturday morning at 7 a.m. with the Kiwanis Fishing Derby at Walker Park. At 9:45 a.m. on the Farmer's Bank and Trust parking lot on Main Street will be the Presentation of Colors featuring Cub Scouts and drummers.

Other activities happening along Main Street during Saturday's MayFest include Blue Grass music at the Pocket Park from 10-2 p.m., Blytheville Idol Karaoke Contest at the Pocket Park at 2 p.m., Gospel Performances all day long at the Gospel Stage on the Southern Bancorp parking lot, The Humane Society of Blytheville is sponsoring a dog show from 1-3 p.m. and Children's Block activities all day long sponsored by the United Way,

In addition, there will be 55 food, crafts and informational booths set up along Main Street for the festival.

A Mother/Son Date Night dance will be held at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Holidome. Tickets for the Mother/Son Date Night are available at the door the night of the event and are $10 for the first ticket and $5 for each ticket after that.
