John Marlin Williams

John Marlin Williams, 63, of Black Oak, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was a seven year cancer survivor but died of heart complications.

Mr. Williams was born on Aug. 2, 1946, to the late J.K. Williams and Eva Fisher Williams in Black Oak. Mr. Williams was a member of the Black Oak Church of Christ, a Vietnam Navy veteran, an Arkansas state trooper, deputy for Craighead Sheriff's department, officer for the Black Oak Police department, Black Oak City Council member for over 20 years, member of the Monette American Legion, served over 20 years as a volunteer fire fighter, owner and operator of Williams' Trucking Company, life long resident of Black Oak, enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially going to the coffee shops and visiting with everyone and spending special time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, Gaye Williams; mother-in-law, Maxine Wallin of Lepanto; a son, Jeff Felkins and wife Sharla of Flippin; two brothers, Norman Williams and wife Peggy of Black Oak and Brinkley Williams and wife Liz of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Jeannie Wallace and husband Clay of Mineral, Vir., Peggy Cleghorn and husband Jerry of Elkhart, Texas, and Oquilla Rodgers of Jonesboro; two granddaughters, and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Brady.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the Black Oak Church of Christ in Black Oak, with Mr. Eddie Dunigan officiating. Interment was in Monette Cemetery. The family received visitors from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, April 16.

The family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude's Hospital, Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, or Black Oak Church of Christ.

Faith Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
