Cully Crook will be cutting hair one last time in Blytheville before closing Red Ball Barbershop on Main Street for good.
Crook, who has had a barbershop in Blytheville for 43 years and 4 months, will be closing on Saturday.
"It has been a great time," Crook said. "I will be open Saturday, and I will cut hair for as long as they are coming in the door. It has been bittersweet this last month. Some people I haven't told because I just couldn't tell them without crying."
Crook said that he and his wife, Alice Jane, have moved to Illinois where his wife was raised. Crook is getting ready to retire and cut back.
"We bought a house up here about a year ago," Crook said. "We sold our house in Gosnell last June, and I have been coming to Blytheville and working a lot but that has been hard."
Crook said he will miss Blytheville, which has been his home for so many years.
"Blytheville is really wonderful," Crook said. "I will miss all my customers. The people of Blytheville, the Bootheel have been good to me. There are just so many wonderful people there. I couldn't ask for any better. I could stay until I drop, but it is time for me to cut back."
Crook said his only regret is that there isn't someone to take over his shop. He said he offered 20 or 30 young people the opportunity to go to barber school and take over his shop, but no one would take him up on the offer.
"It really hurts my heart that I can't get any young people to go to barber school," Crook said. "It has been a real good living and the people of Blytheville and the Bootheel have been good to us."
Crook says any one wanting a last hair cut from him can stop by on Saturday.
