Blytheville Police are investigating the early Sunday morning shooting of a Blytheville man, according to Police Detectives.

At 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Blytheville Police were advised that Mississippi County Sheriff's Department deputies were in pursuit of a maroon Mazda inside the city limits of Blytheville. Officers then joined in the pursuit and were able to get the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Indiana and Sixth streets.

When officers approached the vehicle, being driven by Charles Price, they were informed that a passenger in the vehicle, 46-year-old Michael Walton of Blytheville, had been shot in the stomach. Since Price was being detained by officers, a county deputy then drove the suspect vehicle with the victim on to Great River Medical Center for treatment.

Price told officers that he learned of Walton's condition as he pulled up to Jennerette's Place, located at 1205 Denny. Price said he was given the keys to the vehicle and told to take the victim to the hospital. Price could not recall who told him to take Walton to the hospital.

Officers then went to Great River Medical Center to speak with Walton about the shooting, but according to police, Walton was uncooperative about giving any details, except to say that he was shot while trying to walk to his home on Myrtle Street.

Walton was later flown by helicopter to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, for treatment of his gunshot wound.

The investigation continues.
