Who is Brian Sims? Occupation: Currently, the Arkansas History teacher at Gosnell Junior High and head senior high football coach. Education: 1998 graduate of Henderson St. Hometown: Benton, Ark.

Question 1: Who influenced you the most when you were younger?

The one who influenced me the most was my father. As for becoming a coach, that would have to be Dwight Fite, my high school coach. He's kind of a legend down in central Arkansas. He's a great man. He joined the state legislature after he retired. At the time, we played in one of the largest classifications and we were always ranked in the top ten. It wasn't because we were the most talented but because we worked harder then anyone else.

Question 2: What is your most memorable moment as a coach?

"When we beat Prairie Grove in 2005. That was just a great group of kids. I coached them in junior high and we were terrible but those kids kept working hard. Guys like Josh Anderson, Aaron Cook, Spencer Blount and the rest of that senior bunch. They just worked the whole time they were in high school. To be a fourth seed and to go up and beat a top 10 team in Prairie Grove, and thump them like we did, just showed how hard those kids worked."

Question 3: What is the most gratifying aspect of coaching?

"Working with the kids. Seeing kids like Joe Grissom this year and past kids like Matt Davis and Aaron Cook. They weren't the most talented athletes coming up, but they just cared so much and worked so hard that they ended up having good senior years and became good ball players. You can sometimes tell how a kid will do in life by the way they treat football. I've been coaching for a while now and to see some of these kids go on to college, get good jobs have families and just become good people is a great feeling."

Question 4: What is the most frustrating aspect of coaching?

"Dealing with high school kids. You never know what a high school kid is going to do on a Friday night. Dealing with their day-to-day problems. We don't have any smooth years. You're always dealing with some problem here and some problem there that doesn't have much to do with football."

Question 5: What's the most difficult aspect of preparing for an individual game?

"It all depends on who you are preparing for. Trying to figure out how to compete against teams that are just more talented than you is the most difficult. It's time consuming. It takes away a lot of family time. My wife and kids understood it. My wife met me while I was playing football at Henderson so she knows what it's all about. It's just very time consuming but I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be doing it."
