A Blytheville Postal worker was attacked by two dogs Thursday while delivering mail on his route, according to a Blytheville Police report.

Mark Martin, 49, of Armorel, was delivering mail at a residence on First and Davis Streets at 12:23 p.m. Thursday, when he heard some dogs barking. Martin said he then saw a large brown dog and a small brown pit bull charging at him. Martin was unable to escape from the dogs as they attacked him.

Martin was bitten in the middle of his back and just above his left elbow by the dogs, with both dog bites breaking the skin. Martin was taken by a co-worker to his private physician for treatment of his injuries. Photos were also taken of the injuries at the doctor's office.

Animal Control, along with several police officers, responded to the area to search for the loose dogs. The two dogs were located under an abandoned house on Dougan Street after several hours of searching and chasing the dogs.

The bigger dog is believed to have been shot by one of the officers, but it fled the area, and officers were unable to locate it again.

Several citizens in the neighborhood told police that the dogs in question live at the residence, and they are allowed to roam the roads all day. A dog collar and a leash were located at 310 North First St., which were collected as evidence by police.

The owners of the dogs were not located and the incident is still under investigation by police.
