At least two events are available to scare folks for Halloween this year.
Personnel of the Blytheville Fire Department are again sponsoring the "Flightline of Fear," and the Arts Council of Mississippi County is again sponsoring The Haunted Theater at the Ritz Civic Center in downtown Blytheville.
The Flightline of Fear takes place in a training tower at the fire department on the Arkansas Aeroplex.
Using special effects, costumes and lots of people, the Flightline of Fear includes two new rooms this year, a shrinking hallway and a "room of doors," as well as other "scary" surprises, organizers said.
The doors open at 7 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday through Halloween. "We will stay as long as there are people coming through on Halloween night," one firefighter said.
Students from Blytheville High School also assist the firefighters with the project, organizers said.
Admission is only $5 per person and all proceeds help support the department's community service projects, such as the MDA, the American Red Cross and the Blytheville Emergency Squad.
A concession stand, along with a hayride for younger persons will also be available.
For more information about the Flightline of Fear, contact the Blytheville Fire Department at 532-5006.
Volunteers are still needed for The Haunted Theater. An organizational meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ritz, 306 W. Main in Blytheville.
The Haunted Theater will start on Oct. 22 and continue through Oct. 24, and again on Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Halloween at 7 p.m. each evening.
Admission is $5 per person. Proceeds benefit the Arts Council.
"Each year we do this, volunteers and guests have a great time and leave with moments to remember," said Ken Jackson, assistant director of The Arts Council.
