A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, Sept. 24, to welcome K&M Consignment and Tanning into the Monette business community.
Monette Mayor Chub Qualls and members of the Monette City Beautification Committee were on hand for the formal ribbon cutting and welcome certificate presentation, in front of the new business at 107 W. Drew Avenue.
Owners Michele King and Katherine Munsell are busy stocking their new business and had 19 vendors bring in items the first week of business, with more arriving daily. The business accepts anything for sale except furniture at this time.
The store hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and by appointment from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The King and Munsell families moved to Monette earlier this year, from Kokomo, Ind. Michell is married to Michael King, and their daughter Katherine is married to Ryan Munsell. The Munsells have two children, Michael, 4, and Angel, 14 months.
Mrs. King owned a landscaping company in the past and was a licensed child care facility operator in Indiana.
"I visited here last summer and knew this is where I wanted to live," Mrs. King said. "We fell in love with the community and plan to make this our permanent home. The community has been very receiving and welcoming to us.
"We researched and decided that a consignment shop and a tanning salon would be a good business choice, as there is neither here. Having this store has been one of my dreams. I knew I would need help, especially when I had to be out of the store, so I recruited Katherine as a business partner. We plan to remodel the south end of the building for added space, as we are currently only using one third of the total square footage."
The Kings are active members of the Monette First Baptist Church.
"Both of our families look forward to growing here spiritually and emotionally, and with God's help financially too," Mrs. King said.
Vendors seeing a number assignment for their items are encouraged to call 870-486-9004.
