Home cooking comes to Caraway

A special ribbon cutting was held Monday, Aug. 17, for the grand opening of "Vittles and More" in Caraway. Mayor Barry Riley presided over the ceremony with owners Eddie and Diane Davis.

"We are proud to have the new cafe become a part of our Caraway business community," Riley said.

"We plan to be open from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. six days a week, and not on Sunday," Eddie Davis said. "We will be serving plate lunches and sandwiches, from a well rounded menu. We plan to add to the menu as we go along, and customers have special requests. Later we will have a fish lunch on Fridays and suppers."

"This is our first try at this, and we want to do our very best," Diane Davis said. "We like good home cooking foods and feel that our customers will also."

Eddie and Diane Davis have experienced working in family businesses in Rivervale, where they make their home. Their parents ran McCowan's Red Building in Rivervale and Davis Salvage Yard in Marked Tree. Eddie and Diane Davis have a daughter Vanessa Nowlin. Vanessa and her husband Nicholas have a daughter Katie.

Mitchell Tipton painted the cafe sign at the front of the business and also on the Davis truck, parked beside the building.

New employee Ashley Staggs was on hand during the day to serve the many customers who came by to visit the cafe and try out their plate lunches.

"We want to invite everyone to come by and eat with us and give us a chance to do a good business here," Eddie Davis said. "We will open to host parties and reunions."

"It is always exciting to have a new business start in Caraway," Riley said. "We need a place to come by early and eat breakfast. Our people have been asking for this."
