It's that time of year again when the cotton has pink and white blooms, sun-kissed kids are playing in the front yard water sprinklers, and the watermelons are ripe and ready to eat. It all leads to the annual watermelon festival in Leachville.

The watermelon festival will be held Saturday at Adams Land Company and Main Street in Leachville from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., rain or shine.

This year's festival has an array of things to see and do for the whole family. Multiple vendors, an Army rock wall, military recruiters, and a duck calling seminar top the list. Anyone with a beef with the Leachville city council or mayor will have the opportunity to get even in the festival's dunking booth. For the younger members of the family there will be a monster maze, a 22 foot slide.

Anyone with old artifacts will have the opportunity to have them identified by a team from the Arkansas Archeology Society. A team from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife and Arkansas Game and Fish will be on hand at the festival this year.

One of the highlights of the festival will be an antique car show held at Adams Land Company with over 100 entries slatted to compete. All entries will receive a picture and plaque for participating. All proceeds from the car show will benefit Buffalo Island Veterans Memorial Park.

"We've had many watermelon festivals in prior years, but this year's has much more to offer than years past, and it all goes to a very, worth cause, The Buffalo Island Veterans Memorial," Myra Adams said.
