The Buffalo Island Central School Board met Monday, July 13, and voted to hire Garrett Eoff, of Jonesboro, as head boys basketball and baseball coach, with an 11-month contract of $47,728.94.

Eoff has been employed at Weiner High School for the past three years as head boys basketball and baseball coach, girls golf coach, and junior Little League head coach.

The Directors voted to allow BIC Superintendent George Edd Holland to fill the boys assistant coach position.

In other business Holland announced he had received a check from former head boys basketball coach Dion Hargrove for $1,826.26, with a request it be placed in the BIC Athletic Fund.

"I did not know anything about the account listed as BIC Basketball," Holland said. "Hargrove said he had set up the account to assist players needing financial help and to purchase tee shirts and miscellaneous team needs. He said the boosters club (Mustang Club) had made donations to the account, but most of the money deposited was from what he earned doing summer basketball camps. Only Dion and Johnny Grooms could sign checks on the account. He closed the account and wanted to donate the money to the school."

"He said it is not unusual for coaches to have such a support fund," Holland said. "I don't want a school employee to have his name on any account that we do not have control over."

"We don't have any control over the Mustang Club," said board member Terry Edwards.

"No we don't," Holland said. "As a school we have to account for every penny we take in or spend. We don't have any information on this account, just the receipt of the check. What do you want to do with it? Should we put it in the BIC Athletic Fund or give it to the Mustang Club?"

After a brief discussion the board voted to give it to the Mustang Club, since they had previously made donations to the account.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in the Superintendents office on the Monette campus.
