Blytheville High School Principal Terrance Dunn has resigned his position, effective July 30, according to Superintendent Richard Atwill.
Dunn submitted his letter of resignation on Monday. He has been principal at the school for only one year.
Atwill said he did not know any specific problems that Dunn had at BHS, saying the resignation was because of Dunn's relocation to California.
When contacted by phone, Dunn said he had been offered an opportunity in California, where he lived prior to becoming principal at BHS.
Dunn and his family lived in Marion and he commuted to Blytheville each day.
His decision to resign did not come easily to him, Dunn said. "I have been mulling it over for some time now."
There are no hard feelings, Dunn said this morning.
"It was a very good year," he said. "Our end-of-course tests showed improvement."
The decision to leave BHS was purely a financial one, Dunn said.
"My wife and I have to make sure we are affording our family the best opportunities," he said. "For me, it boiled down to my personal finances. It was a personal decision."
Atwill said he is not sure how Dunn's replacement will be hired. With contracts already signed for most faculty members for the 2009-10 school year, there aren't many seeking positions.
"I haven't yet decided how we are going to proceed," Atwill said.
