The Act 2! community theater group will bring "The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood" to the stage of the Ritz Theater for performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The play is the tale of swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero Robin Hood, as he swaggers through a funny, Monty Python-esque retelling of the classic. This time around, the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions), an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bullseye, a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe, and a good-natured "town's girl" who manages to make her way into every scene, whether she belongs there or not.

"The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood" is being directed by Act 2! President Ken Jackson, with assistance from Robert Phelps. Both are also cast members, with Phelps in the role of Robin Hood, and Jackson stepping in at the last moment to play The Sheriff, because of an emergency of a fellow cast member.

Other cast members include some familiar faces to Act 2! fans, along with some new ones. The cast includes Jennifer Lynn Haley (Lady Marion), Greg Groves (Prince John), Kimberly Dunlap (The Town's Girl), Teresa Dodd (Lady in Waiting), George Klee (Friar Tuck), Peter Stimeling (Will Scarlet), Bill Walls (Little John) and Kendrick Done (Allan Adale). The Prince and Sheriff are supported by Louise Koons, Kellye Brown and Chloe Campbell as a cheering section known as the "Fawning Ladies." Robin Hood recruits some local ladies to help him in his crusade, as well; they are played by Lora Anderson, Teela Phelps, Tonya Harris, Louise Koons, Julia Huffman and Chloe Campbell. Ronald Williams makes his first stage appearance as the Prince's guard. There will also be a special guest appearance by a well-known community figure, but you will have to come to the play to find out who.

Other production support comes by way of JD Harris, Tonya Harris, Candie Groves, Sarah Jackson, David Lyttle, Danna Darty, Charles Moody, Richard Schlosser, Carol Walls and Barbie Rogers.

Tickets are $5, and are available at the door. For more, call 762-1744.
