Garry Lee Boyd
Garry Lee Boyd was called home to be with our Lord, Friday, June 12, 2009. He was a resident of Blytheville for many years. He lived at home with his dog Lem and his cat Johnny Girl. Garry was born to Doris O'Dell Boyd of Jonesboro and the late James Edward Boyd on Sept. 9, 1948. He was raised in Caraway, graduating Caraway High School in 1966. He persued an education in chemistry, graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas State University - Beebe in 1976. Over the years he worked as a chemist at Plastine in Portageville, Mo., and Universal Plating in McKenzie, Tenn., also as a chemical engineer at Davison in Americus, Ga., and Norada in Newport. Then he became an environmental engineer at Nucor Hickman. He also taught chemistry at Wynne High School before becoming too disabled to work. He spent the last six years enjoying time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Blytheville. Garry enjoyed the great Arkansas outdoors. He was loved deeply and will be truly missed.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Pamala Anne Hathcher.
In addition to his mother, he leaves behind two brothers, Jim Boyd of Monette and Steve Boyd and his wife Lisa of Jonesboro; two children, Kathey Barker of Blytheville and Terry Barker of McKenzie; three grandchildren, Shelby Thompson of Swifton, Cherie Barker of Blytheville and Bryce Barker of Lake City; three nieces, Miranda Huffine of Jonesboro, Molli Palmer of Manila and Devan Hanks of Jonesboro; a nephew, Dillan Lawrence of Jonesboro.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Danny Smith and Rev. Allen Franklin officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
