JOINER -- Two Joiner men were recently arrested on drug charges, according to officials with the Second Judicial Drug Task Force, Mississippi County Unit.
On June 2, at 6 p.m., Joiner Police Chief Robert Yerbey and Officer Terry Taylor were traveling down Eddings Street in Joiner, when they observed a man identified as Carl Hawkins, 19, of Joiner, riding a bicycle with his pants pulled down and his buttocks showing.
The officers followed Hawkins to a residence at the 200 block of Elrod, where they asked him to stop so they could talk to him.
Hawkins replied with a vulgar statement and ran into the residence. Yerbey followed Hawkins into the residence and placed him under arrest. While officers were escorting Hawkins out of the residence, Travoise Hayes and Trevino Brooks followed them outside cursing and threatening them.
Hawkins was then transported to the Joiner Police Station where officers then conducted a pat-down search of Hawkins, where several plastic baggies of suspected marijuana was located in his right front pants pocket.
Hawkins was transported to the Mississippi County Jail, where Sgt. Grant Barnett of the Second Judicial District Drug Task Force, Mississippi County Unit, met with Yerbey and took possession of a brown paper sack containing six plastic baggies of suspected marijuana.
Barnett took the suspected marijuana back to the Drug Task Force Office, where it was field tested and the results were positive. The marijuana had a weight of 26.4 grams.
Hawkins was out on a $20,000 bond for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance misdemeanor at the time of his arrest.
Hawkins faces new charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (marijuana), disorderly conduct, and fleeing on foot.
Hawkins was given a bond of $50,000.

On June 4, detectives with the Drug Task Force and deputies of the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the residence of Maurice Banks, at the 100 block of Magnolia in Joiner.
While officers were executing the search warrant, they made contact with Maurice Banks and four young children.
Officers conducting the search located approximately 6.4 grams of suspected marijuana, four rocks of suspected crack cocaine, and a suspected crack pipe. The marijuana and crack cocaine were field tested with a positive result.
Banks was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of a controlled substance-crack cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond for banks was set at $50,000.
Banks has a previous felony criminal history and is currently on parole at the time of his arrest.
