Monette Manor dedicates new flag pole

Monette Manor held a dedication service for the newly erected flag pole on Friday morning, May 22, with a ceremony honoring all resident veterans.

The flag pole came as a suggestion from Vietnam veteran and Monette Manor resident Jimmy Pyland. Pyland also volunteered to raise and lower the flag each day.

Owner Rick Sampson and staff did some of the work themselves for the project.

The new flagpole is located in front of Monette Manor. The site was landscaped around the flag pole and ready for the ceremony.

Members of the American Legion, Jerry Qualls, Robin Ashley, Bob George, Jerry Reed, Bill Craig and Larry Rolland, participated in the dedication ceremony.

Jimmy Pyland, Vietnam veteran and resident of Monette Manor, volunteered to take care of the raising and lowering of the flag at Monette Manor.

Jerry Reed commended Mr. Sampson for the work and Mr. Pyland for volunteering to take care of the flag.

"It is always good to honor and glorify our flag," Reed said. "It represents our freedom. It started out with 13 states and now represents 50. Those stripes honor the blood shed for our country."

Each of Monette Manor's veterans were honored and presented a plaque of appreciation for their service to their country.

Veterans include Leslie Beal, Army; James Biggs, Army; Earn Bunnell, Navy; Roy Clowers, Army; Ronald Crawford, Army; Felix McHaney, Army; Jimmy Pyland, Army; Jerald Sizemore, Army; and Henry Zarnes, Navy.
