Area residents braved the wind and the rain Sunday to pay honor to American soldiers buried at the Monette Cemetery.
Members of the Monette American Legion hosted the tribute and posted flags along Monette's Drew Avenue.
Post Chaplain Robert Chambers paid tribute to all the veterans, past and present. He read Exodus 12:14, from the Bible, which stated, "This day shall be unto you for a memorial."
"We as a people are also called to remember," Chambers said. "While we separate the functions of church and state, we do not separate religion from the total life of the nation. As a people we have reasons to be grateful to the Father of nations because we have been delivered from fear and oppression and been given opportunity for the freest life any citizen has ever known.
"On Memorial Day, we mourn the loss, remember the loss, and show our thankfulness for their service. In the military we are taught to never leave anyone behind. We are here today to say and show that we will never leave anyone behind or forgotten.
"What you do for yourself dies with you, but what you do for others will live forever."
Chambers led the group assembled in a closing prayer for the veterans.
Bob Blankenship played taps on the ceremonial bugle to close the services.
