Ellis Glenn Horner
Ellis Glenn Horner, 83, of Blytheville, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in Manila, he was the son of the late Frank and Edith Turner Horner and was a 1942 graduate of Manila High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served on the U.S.S. James Douglas Blackwood destroyer escort. Glenn graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1949 where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and had been a Blytheville resident since 1960. He had worked as a sales associate for John Hancock Life Insurance Company and was the former general manager for Farm Bureau Life Insurance in Blytheville. Mr. Horner later founded Horner Financial Services and Insurance. He was a former member and past president of the Manila Lions Club, was a Blytheville Rotarian, and was a Paul Harris fellow. He was a longtime member of the Blytheville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Perkins Horner of the home; two sons, Ellis Glenn Horner, Jr. of Little Rock and Joseph P. Horner and his wife Annette of Germantown, Tenn.; a daughter, Jane Horner Johnson and her husband Joe of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Denise P. Horner and Jay Horner.
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Blytheville with Rev. Chris Cooper and Rev. Pam Estes officiating.
The family prefers any memorials sent to be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
