Former Mississippi County Judge Steve McGuire would always say,“It’s a great day to be in Mississippi County.” I think he would agree that Saturday was indeed a great day to be in Blytheville. There were plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy, ranging from aerobatics at the Arkansas Aeroplex to stunning Corvettes on Ash Street, the Summer Reading Prize Party at the library and golfing for a good cause at Thunder Bayou Golf Links...

BFD offers tips for a safe Fourth of July

With the Fourth of July fast approaching the Blytheville Fire Department would like to remind everyone that extreme caution and safety should be exercised if you choose to discharge fireworks outside the city limits. Blytheville City Ordinance prohibits the sale or use of fireworks within the city limits. With the public’s compliance of this ordinance, BPD reports that firemen have seen a significant decrease in fires related to fireworks in the city...

Riverside appoints new board member

At the end of the July 1 Riverside School Board meeting, Len B. Nall resigned his position on the board. “I don't have a letter, but I am submitting my resignation,” Nall said. “I have served eight or 10 years. My daughter has graduated and I do not have any children in school. I think it is time for me to step down. We have had good years. I think it is a better place now than when we started. We have a good superintendent, good principals and good teachers.”...

Fourth of July activities planned

There will be plenty of activities in the local area to celebrate Independence Day. The Blytheville Youth Sportsplex will host the annual fireworks display at dusk (around 9 p.m.) on Thursday.
