Arkansas Supreme Court affirms water late fee ruling

The Supreme Court of Arkansas affirmed the opinion delivered Nov. 2, 2011 by the Arkansas Court of Appeals in the matter of Kenyghatta Davis v. City of Blytheville (and its Water Department). Davis filed a class action suit against the city alleging that she and others like her were "entitled to interest on customer security deposits, that the City's mosquito-control fees were illegal, that the City's late fees and penalties were usurious, unreasonable and unconscionable." Judge Pamela Honeycutt dismissed the case in Mississippi County Circuit Court. ...

River projected to crest at 4th highest ever

Jim Pogue, spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) in Memphis, said they are expecting the Mississippi River to crest at its fourth highest level in recorded history. Firemen respond to East Davis; no major damage

Blytheville firemen were called to East Davis on Wednesday. A fire at 214 East Davis was reported around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, but according to Capt. Scott Edwards it was actually a short in the water heater. No major damage was reported.
