On Saturday, a lunar phenomena will occur, brightening the outside sky during the night. That night, the moon will swing around the earth, lighting up the night sky from just 221,567 miles away. Not only that, the moon will be full.

As the tragedy in Japan continues to unfold, with the body count growing daily and more and more people facing long periods of time without heat, food or clean water, the American Red Cross would like to remind the public about opportunities to help by giving.

Mr. Homer L. Connell was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Ridgely, Tenn., to Jim and Emily Connell. He died March 15, 2011.

Tomorrow -- Thursday -- is St. Patrick's Day. Around here, that doesn't mean a whole lot. Some folks will make a point to wear green, and I can always count on staff writer Aaron FitzPatrick to celebrate his Irish heritage. But mostly, St. Patrick's Day is a non-event around these parts.
