Gosnell's game with Rison cancelled because of COVID-19
The Gosnell Pirates added a senior high football game to their schedule Friday, but the game has been cancelled because of COVID-19 issues.
Originally scheduled to have a bye this week, Gosnell (0-2) was scheduled travel to Wynne Friday night to take on Class 3A fifth-ranked Rison (1-1), after Osceola cancelled last Friday night’s game with the Pirates because of COVID-19.
“When Osceola cancelled last week I saw Rison was looking for a game because Harrisburg cancelled on them,” Gosnell head coach Lewis Earnest said Monday.
The two teams worked out the details last Friday for their final non-conference game this Friday.
However, Gosnell superintendent Bonard Mace told the NEA Town Courier Tuesday that the game has been cancelled.
“Due to Covid-19 issues the senior high football game against Rison Friday night has been cancelled,” Mace said.
Mace said the Junior Pirates will play at Westside Thursday night as scheduled. The Pirates are next scheduled to open 4A-3 conference play Friday, Sept. 25 at Highland.
