A hearing was held Tuesday to determine whether or not certain pieces of evidence would be admissible during the upcoming trial for 43-year-old Jimmy Northern, who is facing murder charges in the December 2012 death of 23-year-old David Thomas Essig.

According to Deputy Prosecutor Curtis Walker, the judge has not yet made an official ruling on the admissibility of evidence prosecutors are looking to use in the case.

"We have some evidence that we want to use in the case that (Northern's) attorneys don't want us to be able to use," Walker said. "I can't go into details about the evidence, but we're waiting on the judge now to make a ruling."

Northern is scheduled to appear back in court on March 10.

Essig was discovered on the morning of Dec. 1, lying on the ground in the yard of the True Gospel MB Church, located at 1604 W. Rose St. When officers arrived, Essig was dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
