The Blytheville Planning Commission approved two requests presented during this week's meeting.
Rev. Jay E. Slaughter approached the committee requesting a Conditional Use Permit for the purpose of establishing a Halfway House 201 W. McHaney. The name of the program, E.F.F.O.R.T -- Equipping Families For Ownership through Rehabilitation & Training, is designed to house up to 10 men who have just been released from prison with a supervisor on site at all times.
The program would provide the following treatment services: clean, secure housing, assistance with meals, medication management, life skills and training, job placement with transportation, appropriate day treatment, case management, inter-agency brokerage and advocacy, pastoral care, and a caring and respectful staff.
The group is partnering with the county jail. All notifications have been made, a sign has been posted on the property and a notice was placed in the local newspaper.
Kroger requested and was granted a lot split for the purpose of constructing gasoline pumps to the west of the store in the vacant lot. Plans show that eight gas pumps will be erected at the site, in addition to a small building. The committee said the property is zoned as B-4, which allows such a business.
