JONESBORO -- The 4A-3 district baseball tournament was moved from Pocahontas to Jonesboro Westside High School over the weekend because of flooding conditions in Pocahontas.

The change in venue didn't prevent the Pocahontas Redskins from eliminating the Gosnell Pirates from the tournament and ending their season with a 17-6 win Saturday afternoon in five innings.

The Redskins jumped all over Pirate pitching for five home runs and 15 total hits. Leadoff hitter, Jack Baltz, went deep twice including one to lead off the game in the top of the first as Pocahontas jumped out to a 13-0 lead after two and a half innings.

Redskin starting pitcher Jacob Thielemier held the Gosnell bats to just three runs on three hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.

The Pirate offense wasn't completely silent as seniors Bryce Smith (1-2, home run and 2 RBIs) and Zach Perrin (2-3, home run and 2 RBIs) eached homered in their final games. Gosnell scored a run in the third, two in the second and three in the fifth. The Pirates ended the season with a 12-7 record and went 7-3 in the 4A-3 regular season.
